‘12,680 get assistance under pension scheme'

PERAMBALUR: A total of 12,680 persons were getting assistance under the Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension Scheme in Perambalur district, said Collector M.Vijayakumar here on Tuesday.
Speaking at a special camp to identify and select beneficiaries for the Indira Gandhi National Disability Pension Scheme at Perambalur, Mr.Vijayakumar said 75 differently abled persons were drawing pension under the scheme. About Rs.1.08 crore has been extended as maintenance grant to 1270 differently abled persons, including mentally retarded persons. A total of 3,439 widows were drawing pension under the Indira Gandhi National Widow Pension Scheme, he said.
Special camps were being held across the district to identify more beneficiaries . Similar camps would be held at Veppanthattai on Wednesday, at Alathur on Thursday and at Veppur on Friday. He appealed to differently abled persons of the areas to attend the camps to avail themselves of the government assistance.
Mr.Vijayakumar distributed sanction orders for pension to 15 differently abled persons selected on the occasion. S.Palanisamy, District Revenue Officer, and other officials were present.
