Governor refers Tiwari issue to Supreme Court
Staff Reporter
Mumbai: Maharashtra Governor K. Sankaranarayanan made a reference to the Supreme Court on Tuesday for the removal of State Information Commissioner Ramanand Tiwari, who is embroiled in the Adarsh Cooperative Housing Society scam.
Mr. Sankaranarayanan made the reference under Section 17 (1) of the Right to Information Act.
The section pertains to the removal of State Chief Information Commissioner or State Information Commissioner.
It states: “The State Information Commissioner shall be removed from his office only by order of the Governor on the ground of proved misbehaviour or incapacity after the Supreme Court, on a reference made to it by the Governor, has on inquiry, reported that the State Information Commissioner, as the case may be, ought on such ground be removed.”
The Governor's move comes in response to the government's request for Mr. Tiwari's removal.
