‘Uzhavar Sandhai' at Pernambut sought

Staff Reporter

PERNAMBUT: A plea to establish an ‘Uzhavar Sandhai' at the Pernambut municipality has been made to Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi.

Member (Vellore district) of State Consumer Protection Council T. Basheeruddin, in a letter to the Chief Minister, has welcomed the government's move to establish 25 additional ‘Uzhavar Sandhais' across the State to control price hike.

He said that there was a population of more than one lakh in Pernambut municipality, Erikuthi, Sathgar, Gundallapalli, Aravatla, Bathalapalli, Erukkampattu, Kothapalli, Masigam and surrounding panchayats. Majority of the people were involved in agriculture. They were bringing vegetables for sale to the Pernambut municipality limit, but there were no proper stalls.

This forced farmers to sell vegetables in unhygienic surroundings and narrow streets with little facilities, Mr. Basheeruddin said.
