Hyderabad triumphs

HYDERABAD: Defending champion Hyderabad won the South Zone women's T-20 cricket tournament, defeating Karnataka by six wickets in the last round of the championship at the Gymkhana grounds here on Wednesday.

Batting first, Karnataka scored 116 for six in 20 overs with Karuna Jain (23, 20 balls, 3 x 4) and Sindhu Ashok (33 not out, 48 balls, 2 x 4) being the main contributors.

Chasing the modest target, Hyderabad suffered early blows to be reduced to 19 for three in 4.4 overs. A crucial partnership of 72 runs for the fourth wicket between Mamata Kanojia (57 not out, 60b, 3x4) and Shravanthi Naidu (28, 30b, 1x4, 1x6) brought Hyderabad back in the game.

Hyderabad Cricket Association secretary D.S. Chalapathi announced a cash incentive of Rs. 10,000 each for the winning team.

The scores: Final round: Karnataka 116 for six (Karuna Jain 33 not out) lost to Hyderabad 118 for four in 19.3 overs (Mamata Kanojia 57 not out).

Kerala 76 for nine lost to Goa 77 for six in 18.2 overs (Resha Rawal 38).

Andhra 112 in 19.3 overs (V. Abhinaya three for 11, M. D. Thirush Kamini three for 17) lost to Tamil Nadu 115 for one in 17.1 overs (Nirajana 59 not out, M. D. Thirush Kamini 43 not out).

Final placings: 1. Hyderabad 20 points, 2. Karnataka 16, 3. Goa 12, 4. TN 8, 5. Kerala 4, 6. Andhra zero .
