Staff Correspondent
Manipal: Manipal Institute of Jewellery Management (MIJM) has come up with a novel idea of creating awareness to the staff of banks on authenticity of gold jewellery by organising a one-day workshop on “gold jewellery appraising” at the Dr. T.M.A. Pai Planetarium here on January 28.
A press release issued by the Manipal University here on Wednesday said the objective of holding the programme was to enable banks to identify the quality of jewellery using karato meter, create awareness on the significance of BIS hallmarking and introduce novel techniques of gem stones and diamond testing and valuation.
There will be practical demonstration and theory. The programme contents includes valuation of gold and silver jewellery using touchstone method and acid testing and understanding of the certificates of gemstones and diamonds used in jewellery making.
Resource persons will be from the industry. Employees of credit co-operative societies, co-operative banks, national and private banks and moneylenders will participate in the programme.
