D.D. Kosambi festival from February 5

PANAJI: Renowned personalities from across the world comprising Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama, scientist Raghunath Mashelkar, the former President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, economist Lord Meghnad Desai, Justice Albie Sachs and scholar Karan Singh will deliver talks at the 4th D.D. Kosambi Festival of Ideas this year.

The festival is organised by the State Directorate of Art and Culture in memory of polymath of Goan origin Dr. Kosambi will begin on February 5 at Kala Academy in the city.

The State Government initiated the D.D. Kosambi Festival of Ideas in February 2008 to commemorate the birth centenary of the legendary Damodar Dharmanand Kosambi, a mathematician, statistician, historian and polymath who contributed to genetics by introducing Kosambi's map function. He is known for his work in numismatics and for compiling critical editions of ancient texts.

Patriarch

He is described as “the patriarch of the Marxist school of Indian historiography”.

He was an enthusiast of the Chinese revolution and its ideals, and, in addition, a leading activist in the World Peace Movement.
