Sanctuary may be closed next month

MYSORE: Forest officials have planned to close down guesthouses and safaris in the Biligiri Rangana Temple Hills (BRT) Wildlife Sanctuary for tourists from the first week of February to manage forest fire which has become a regular seasonal phenomenon.
Deputy Conservator of Forests BRT Wildlife Sanctuary Ravishankar told The Hindu that permission had been sought from the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF) wildlife to close down guesthouses and safaris. His approval is being awaited, he said.
Mr. Ravishankar said that it had been decided to close down the sanctuary in view of the increase in the number of tourists during the season.
Watcher injured
Mahadeva, a forest watcher, was injured on Wednesday in an elephant attack in Adagulipura area of Kyatarayana Gudi range. After treatment in the Chamarajanagar district hospital, he was shifted to JSS Hospital, Mysore, Mr. Ravishankar said.
