Bangalore: The Institute for Social and Economic Change (ISEC), Bangalore, has announced a “Social Science Talent Search Scheme”. It has decided to hold a talent search examination on February 6 for students studying at class XII level with any group combination such as arts, science and commerce. Addressing presspersons here on Wednesday, ISEC Director R.S. Deshpande and Bangalore University Professor Mohan Kumar said the purpose of the scheme was to identify talented students in social sciences across the State. The main objective of the scheme was to encourage students to join graduation and post-graduation courses in social sciences. For attracting talented students towards social sciences, ISEC has entered into an agreement with Bangalore University, Karnataka Knowledge Commission, Pre-University Board and Centre for the Study of Culture and Society, Bangalore, Prof. Deshpande said. The examination would be conducted for selection of 25 students for providing scholarship. The scholarship would be provided for three years of undergraduate study. However, in the initial years, the scheme would cover students in the jurisdiction of Bangalore University, they said. Test The questions contain both objective and descriptive type. Questions would be asked mainly on society, polity, economy and diversity of socio-cultural history of India. The examination will be held at select centres in the Bangalore division. Besides scholarship, selected students would also be eligible to attend a professional training programme on ISEC campus, once a year. Application forms can be downloaded from ISEC website www.isec.ac.in. Students appearing for the examination have to pay Rs. 30 in the name of the Registrar, ISEC, Bangalore, either in the form of a postal order or in cash.
