HYDERABAD: Bharat Dynamics Ltd. recorded a thrilling one-run win over South Central Railway Sports Association (SCRSA) in the semifinals of the A-Division one-day (knock-out) cricket tournament here on Wednesday. Batting first, BDL scored 200 with Yatin Reddy (52) being the top-scorer. In reply, SCRSA missed the target by just one run despite fighting innings from M. Shashavalli (44) and J. T. Yadav (38 not out) as left-arm spinner B. Sandeep (three for 40) struck crucial blows. In another semifinal, century by B. Sumanth (108) helped State Bank of Hyderabad defeat Deccan Chronicle by four wickets. The scores: A-Division (knock-out): Semifinals: BDL 200 (Yatin Reddy 52, Rahul Singh 33, G. Elazer three for 22) bt SCRSA 199 ( M. Shashavalli 44,J. T. Yadav 38 not out, B. Sandeep three for 40). Deccan Chronicle 279 for six (Ashish Reddy 34, Sandeep Goud 71, P. S. S. Bharat Verma 69 not out) lost to SBH 280 for six (Daniel Manohar 77, B. Sumanth 108, P. S. S. Bharat Verma three for 53). Ex-hockey player dead Former Indian Railways and State hockey player Arisam Venugopal passed away after a cardiac arrest late on Tuesday night here. He was 84. Venugopal, who was a contemporary of the legendary Dhyan Chand and was his roommate in many national tournaments, was also the Hyderabad coach for many years besides heading its selection panel. He also played for Central Railway and later South Central Railway and was the first one from Andhra Pradesh to be a qualified NIS coach. Olympians N. Mukesh Kumar, Edwards Alloysius, former Hyderabad Hockey Association secretary G. Satyanarayana, former Hyderabad Sultans coach Narinderpal Singh, who learnt the basics from him, expressed profound shock at the death of Venugopal and condolences to the bereaved family members. — Special Correspondent
