Coimbatore: Right-arm medium pacer J. David King (four for 1, including a hat-trick) and left-arm spinner P. Jishnu (four for 5) made merry as Karunya University opened its campaign with a eight-wicket win over PPG Engineering College in the CDCA second inter-collegiate cricket tournament at the SNR Sons College grounds here on Wednesday. After bowling out the opposition for 26, Karunya scored the required runs in a shade less than five overs. The scores: PPG EC 26 in 14.2 overs (J. David King four for 1, incl. hat-trick, P. Jishnu four for 5) lost to Karunya University 27 for two in 4.4 overs; Park EC 141 in 26 overs (Niranjan 47, Prabhakaran 41, Rajasekar three for 25, Mahendran three for 32) lost to KG ASC 142 for eight in 28.3 overs (Rajasekar 37, Prabhakar 30 not out, Niranjan three for 36). Krishna CAS 119 in 23.2 overs (Mohammed Rafiq three for 5) lost to Sri Jayendra CAS 121 for four in 23.2 overs (Mohammed Rafiq 41, Rahul three for 6). Big win for Karunya Karunya University blanked KRV Memorial Football Club 5-0 in the CDFA third division league at the PSG Medical College grounds on Wednesday. The results: Karunya University 5 (G. Mani, KV post wins Mani Higher Secondary School and Kendriya Vidyalaya chalked out comfortable wins on the opening day of the eighth Rao Bahadur Sri Gopal Naidu Memorial Trophy football tournament for junior boys at the Gopal Naidu grounds on Wednesday.
