Chawla beats Burden

MUMBAI: Kamal Chawla kept his nerve to shock Alfred Burden in the Cricket Club of India open invitation snooker tournament here on Friday.

In a contest that lasted three hours, Chawla staged a remarkable comeback after losing the first two frames. He was the second Indian to advance into the semifinals where he will meet the winner of the match between Jimmy White and Yasin Merchant.

Earlier, spurred on by the relocation of the knock-out matches from the Wilson Jones Hall to the state-of-the-art Sir Nowroji Saklatvala memorial Badminton Hall, favourite Stephen Lee lifted his game a few notches to beat Aditya Mehta.

The 36-year-old Lee overwhelmed Mehta 6-1 in just over two hours to set up a semifinal clash with Manan Chandra, who accounted for Lucky Vatnani 6-4 in a battle that lasted over three hours.
