KOCHI: The Lotus Trophy all-India ranking tennis tournament, which begins at the Lotus Club and the Regional Sports Centre courts here on Sunday, appears to be getting better and better every year. With Geojit BNP Paribas coming in as the chief sponsor, the host Lotus Club has increased the total prize-money from Rs. 3 lakhs to Rs. 4 lakhs this time. “There could be a very big hike next year,” said Noordin Mather, Chairman of the Tournament Committee and President Emeritus of the Kerala Tennis Association. Defending champion Vijay Sunder, ranked No. 6 in the country, has been given the top billing in the men's section while Delhi's Nehal Sahni (India No. 10) and last year's winner Gopika Kapoor have taken the top two spots in the women's seedings. Tamil Nadu's Mithun Murali, Ajay Selvaraj and Kerala star Rynold Timothy are the other prominent names to watch out for in the men's section. — Special Correspondent
