Two die in road accidents

VIJAYAWADA: Two persons were killed in different road accidents in Krishna district on Friday. A 50-year old cyclist working in the construction of a house in Lakshmipathi Nagar died near Autonagar gate on Friday evening when a lorry hit him.

The police said that the incident occurred when the victim, G. Narasimha Rao of Karmikanagar in Tadigadapa village, was crossing the road. A speeding lorry knocked him down and he fell on the road. He suffered a severe head injury and died on the spot. The police registered a case and seized the lorry. Another person died and one more was injured seriously when a tractor in which they were travelling along with three others met with an accident in the early hours of Friday near Konakanchi village of Penganchiprolu mandal.

The police said that the accident occurred when an over-speeding lorry hit the tractor, which was carrying a load of cement bags, from the rear. Both the vehicles were proceeding in the same direction. Syed Baji, 25, of Bandipalem in Jaggyyapet mandal fell on the road and died on the spot.

A case under Section 304 was registered, police said.
