ONGOLE: As pro-Telangana activists gear up to disrupt the Rachabanda programme beginning Monday, Handlooms and Textiles Minister P. Shankar Rao on Saturday suggested that an SMS poll be held by an independent organisation in the Telangana region to elicit people's opinion on its conduct. A day after pro-Telangana activists disrupted review meetings held by his Cabinet colleague K. Venkat Reddy in Adilabad, Mr. Rao said: “Let an SMS poll be conducted in the 10 districts of Telangana. The programme is meant to benefit poor people who could not get ration cards and other benefits. Now the administration is going to the people. “Whatever people say, I will abide by it. I am ready to resign if people so desire,” he said referring to the pro-Telangana activists' charge that Ministers from Telangana region were keen on Ministerial berths instead of fighting for separate State. He expressing hope that Congress president Sonia Gandhi would concede the demand for separate Telangana sooner than later.
