‘Good career opportunities for science students'

VISAKHAPATNAM: More students must opt to study sciences as their career will have challenging avenues due to penetration and intermixing of various fields, Bhatnagar award winner and noted biological scientist of Centre for DNA Finger Printing (Hyderabad) Sekhar C. Mande, said while inaugurating a lecture workshop on protein engineering and applications organised by GITAM University.

Vice-Chancellor G. Subramanyam, who presided, explained the many steps and programme being taken to improve research activity on the campus.

The first Principal of GITAM Institute of Sciences T.M. Radhakrishnan, who was instrumental in initiating life sciences programmes in GITAM, highlighted the importance of natural evolution and diversity in comparison with developments in protein eengineering for the benefit of human society.

‘Global perspective'

Principal N. Lakshmana Das said science as career rather than service sector jobs, must be given a serious thought.

Every scientific discovery was now being viewed globally and science students have the opportunity to interact with eminent scientists through internet.

HoD of Biotechnology and convenor of the workshop S.V. Rajagopal, Director UGC and research activities Ch. Ramakrishna and others were present.

B. Pavani proposed a vote of thanks. Students from different city colleges participated in the workshop.
