Udhagamandalam: The National Girl Child Day was observed under the aegis of the Public Awareness Association of Udhagamandalam at the CSI Hobart Middle School here on Monday. Addressing the gathering, Consumer Rights Association president Gudalur Sivasubramaniam lamented that on account of the gender bias the male-female ratio in the country was becoming unhealthy. The progress of the nation depends on providing higher education to girls and ensuring their well being. Secretary, Public Awareness Association of Udhagamandalam, G.Janardhanan, said that despite being discriminated against since yore women had played a key role in ensuring the economic well being of many countries. Ill treatment of women should be exposed.
