Over 3,000 students to take part in R-Day celebrations

Bangalore: Preparations are in place for the 61st Republic Day celebrations at Field Marshal Manekshaw Parade Grounds here, when Governor H.R. Bhardwaj will hoist the national flag and receive the guard of honour. More than 3,000 schoolchildren will be participating in various activities at the parade grounds, which will include equestrian and air show.

Commissioner of Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Siddaiah told presspersons here on Monday that 48 teams, including police personnel, Scouts and Guides, National Cadet Corps, Seva Dal and around 1,500 students from several schools, will participate in the march past.

Security arrangements

As many as 26 CCTV cameras have been installed in the grounds. There will also be 23 door-frame metal detectors, said T. Suneel Kumar, Additional Commissioner of Police (Law and Order).

He said that about 2,000 police personnel, including eight Deputy Commissioners of Police, 15 Assistant Commissioners of Police, 32 Inspectors, 100 sub-inspectors and 10 Karnataka State Reserve Police platoons would be deputed.

Mr. Siddaiah said that Quick Response Teams have been formed, while the BBMP has formed a Medical Preparedness Team. A mass casualty management with an eight-bed hospital vehicle will also be on the spot. He added that 1,200 beds have been reserved in 25 hospitals.
