Venkatesh stuns Adarsh, enters final

BANGALORE: Third seed Venkatesh Prasad defeated top seed and doubles partner Adarsh Kumar 14-21, 21-18, 21-18 to cruise into the men's singles final of the Wearhouse 20t {+h} Sadashivanagar Club senior State-ranking badminton tournament at the Club courts here on Monday. Later the duo brushed aside the challenge from Abshishek Yeligar and Gautham Bhat at 21-8, 21-18 to advance into the semifinals.

Vivek shines

Vivek Gautam's unbeaten 67 helped Frank Anthony Public School (FAPS) defeat Carmel HS, Padmanabhanagar by eight wickets in a B.T. Ramaiah Shield under-14 tournament match here recently.

The scores: Carmel HS, Padmanabhanagar 157 in 44.4 overs (Suhail Khan 76, Suraj Rao 37, Kamran Hashmi three for 28) lost to FAPS 158 for two in 28.1 overs (Vivek Gautam 67 n.o., Chaitanya Rai 30, Desmond Anthony 26). Sri Vani Edu. Centre 116 in 45 overs (Anirudh Ritti 61, Darshan Ganesh three for 12, Tejas three for 27) lost to St. Joseph's Boy's HS 120 for one in 20.3 overs (Lochan 38 n.o., Vishal 25 n.o.).

Sudarshan Vidyamandir 111 in 47.2 overs (Preran 28, Abrar three for 25) lost to SJIHS 112 for three in 20 overs (Mashooq Hussain 58 n.o.).

Satish impresses

A. Satish Kumar, a former junior billiards National no. 4, was in irresistible form on the opening day of the State 8-Ball pool championship at the KSBA hall here on Monday.

The league stage of the championship got underway with 12 groups of four players and four groups of five players competing for a place in the round of 32.

Praveen scalps five

Praveen's five for 17 helped Gandhinagar Cricketers to a comfortable seven-wicket win over Eleven Brothers Cricket Club in a KSCA J.B. Mallaradhya Trophy (Group I, Division V) match here recently.

The scores: Eleven Brothers CC 102 in 21.2 overs (Humayun 29, Praveen five for 17) lost to Gandhinagar Cricketers 104 for three in 21.4 overs (R. Suresh 50).

Kapali CC 153 in 44.1 overs (Rahul 37, Omprakash 27) lost to Rajajinagar Cricketers 154 for five in 27.4 overs (Arun Kumar 39, D.S. Ananth 28, Karthik 27).

Nayaz triumphs

Nayaz Pasha won the pro-caddy event in the Lalit Caddies golf tournament at the Bangalore Golf Course here on Monday. Nayaz tallied 41 points to pocket the winner's purse of Rs. 20,000 and a trophy. Nayaz also won a trophy for the ‘longest drive'.

The results: Pro Caddy: Nayaz Pasha — 41 pts; runner-up: Raju — 39 pts (trophy). Senior Caddy: R.T. Raju — 38 pts (Rs. 15,000); runner-up: Shashi Kumar — 37 pts (trophy).

Junior Caddy: N. Muniraju and Siraj tied with 38 pts. Muniraju won the Rs. 10,000 first prize on better back nine score .
