KOCHI: An action council campaigning for a reinvestigation into the death of engineering student Rajan during the Emergency has sought the setting up of a separate tribunal to take up the case afresh. Addressing a press conference here on Monday, office-bearers of the action council said that an independent agency should be entrusted with the investigation as the police could not be expected to conduct an impartial inquiry. They said the government had the responsibility to conduct the inquiry as ‘state' in legal parlance was an entity with continuance with only those occupying the posts changing periodically. The government should encourage sharing of evidence by those who were reluctant to do so to bring out the truth. The incident had many similarities with the murder case of Naxalite leader Varghese, the accused of which were brought to book now. In this scenario, the Rajan case should also be reinvestigated.
