Kanhangad: Amid apprehensions about possible shifting of the Central University of Kerala (CUK) to some other part of the State in the absence of a consensus on suitable land in Kasaragod, Revenue Minister K.P. Rajendran has said the university will come up in the district itself. Reports suggesting that the university might be set up somewhere else in the State for want of suitable land were misplaced and the Union Human Resource Ministry could choose any of the land identified by the State government in four locations in the district, Mr. Rajendran said here on Monday. A decision on the location would be taken shortly. The final decision on the suitable land identified by the State would be taken by officials of the Central University and the State government had asked them to send a letter in this regard before taking the final decision. AMU centre A centre of Aligarh Muslim University at Perinthalmanna in Malappuram district could be set up as the people's representatives stood united for the cause despite having paucity of land to set up the institution, he said asking the local political leadership to work jointly to set up the institution in the relatively backward northern district. The Minister's remarks came amidst reports in a section of the media that the undue delay in taking a decision on a suitable location for the CUK could lead to the district losing the prestigious institution even as efforts were on to shift it to Pathanamthitta district.
