Cynosure:A fighter vehicle on parade at the 62nd Republic Day Celebrations at Secunderabad Parade Grounds on Wednesday.

HYDERABAD: The tableau of the Culture Department depicting the rich cultural heritage of the State, including the famous Kuchipudi dance form, bagged the first prize at the Republic Day function here on Wednesday.

In all 18, tableaux showcasing the achievements of various State Government programmes, participated in the ceremonial parade.

The second prize went to the tableau of Information Technology Department which highlighted the use of IT in generating rural jobs and the training offered to youngsters by Jawahar Knowledge Centres. The third prize was bagged by the tableau of the Information and Public Relations Department which showcased the 100 days programme to transform the city into an international destination. The Forest Department's tableau was given a consolation prize.

With more than 20 contingents drawn from Air Force, Army, CRPF, APSP and others taking part in the march past, the first prize in the seniors category went to Artillery Centre. The runner up was the contingent of Air Force. In the juniors category, NCC Boys received the first prize, while the runner up was the contingent of AP Social Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society. The third prize in the same category went to National Green Corps.

Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan, who gave away the prizes, handed over special appreciation trophies on his behalf to the contingents of Swayamkrushi Institute and the National Institute of Mentally Handicapped.
