BHUBANESWAR: As many as 311 have been appointed as medical officers following recommendations of Orissa Public Service Commission on Thursday. New doctors have been asked to join their respective places of posting within 20 days with effect from the date of issue of the notification which is February 17 failing which their appointments would be automatically cancelled. Most of them have been posted in KBK districts. Several doctors have also been transferred to the poverty-stricken region. The fresh appointments are expected to boost government health services in rural areas where doctors' population has dwindled. In the event of non-existence of vacancy in a particular place, the Chief District Medical Officers have been directed to accept the joining report and adjust the assistant surgeons against other vacancies available under their disposal. A couple of days, Orissa Medical Service Association expressed concerns over possible crisis in health sector with possibilities of mass retirement in the year 2012.
