Ownership documents sought from residents of Bank Colony

District administration claims land belongs to Government

Jai Karnataka Rakshana Vedike takes up the cause of residents

GULBARGA: The residents of Bank Colony in Daddapur locality in the heart of Gulbarga city face an uncertain future. The district administration has issued individual notices to owners asking them to produce ownership documents of the housing plot, claiming that the land on which these houses have been constructed belongs to the Government.

Residents of the colony, which has more than 150 houses, were anxious for their houses, most of which were constructed up to 25 years ago.

Meanwhile, Jai Karnataka Rakshana Vedike has taken up the cause of the residents and asked the district administration to keep its hand off the colony.

President of the vedike Arunkumar Patil said here on Saturday that the Government claimed that the land where these houses had come up, along with the adjacent land, was acquired in 1964. But for reasons best known to the authorities, they had not transferred these to the State Government on record. “The district authorities who were responsible for not transferring this land in the name of Government then, were now trying to hide their mistake by such heavy-handed means,” he said.

Mr. Patil said the authorities had no right to claim ownership of the property after such a long time and said that as per the provisions of the law, if the purchased property or land is not transferred in the name of the purchaser within 12 years, the purchaser would automatically lose his claim over the property or land. “If the purchaser is Government, the land or the property should be transferred to the Government within 30 days and any failure would result in the Government losing its ownership over the land or property,” according to Mr. Patil.

He said the district administration should immediately withdraw the notices issued to the residents.
