Staff Correspondent

State Budget to be presented on February 3

Rs. 1-crore grant for starting a school to spread the Vachanas

Basavaeshwara's teachings applicable to all: Chief Minister

DAVANGERE: Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa said on Saturday that farmers would be given loans at 1 per cent interest from March. “This is to help them continue their agricultural activities without any hassle and to ensure that they do not approach private financiers for loans at higher rates,” he said.

Inaugurating a conference on ‘Basava tatwa' at Pandomatti in Chennagiri taluk, Mr. Yeddyurappa said that the 1 per cent loan scheme would be included in the forthcoming budget.

He said that he would present the budget on February 3.

Mr. Yeddyurappa said that Basavanna's teachings were applicable to all classes of people. He preached a new way of life of divine experience, irrespective of gender, caste, creed, faith or tradition.

Basavanna was a true visionary. He created a literary revolution through his Vachana sahitya. He was a mystic by temperament, an idealist by choice and a statesman by profession.

The Chief Minister announced a Rs. 1-crore grant for starting a school to spread the Vachanas of Basaveshwara in Chennagiri taluk.

Madal Virupakshappa, MLA, welcomed the gathering. B.Y. Raghavendra, MP, was present.
