Rachabanda held amid security in Karimnagar

KARIMNAGAR: In spite of protests and obstructions, the Rachabanda programmes were being held successfully in various parts of the district amid unprecedented security arrangements.

Minister for Civil Supplies D. Sridhar Babu conducted the programme in the interior Shekella and Yeshwanthraopeta villages of Gollapalli mandal on Saturday.

He spoke about the importance of Rachabanda programme where the administration was coming to the doorstep of people to redress their grievances. ZP chairman A Laxman Kumar, Collector G.D. Aruna and others were also present.

In Karimnagar town, the TRS leaders tried to obstruct the programme at the 16th division, but the police arrested the TRS leader S. Ravinder Singh and others and ensured the smooth conduct of the programme.

Poor attendance

Adilabad Staff Reporter adds: District Collector P. Venkateswarlu was forced on Saturday to conduct Rachabanda at Dhoptala village in Bela mandal with only about 10 villagers making it to the venue. While a few Telangana protagonists were taken into custody by the police for trying to obstruct the team of officials, others voluntarily remained away from the grama sabha.

Not finding any petitioners at the venue, the Collector made efforts to mobilise villagers. However, only a few women from local thrift groups attended the programme.

Meanwhile, boycotts of the grama sabhas continued across the district. Of the 59 scheduled programmes, as many as 24 were boycotted by villagers.
