VISAKHAPATNAM: Demudamma, the 110-year-old woman of P.S. Peta of Chodvaram mandal, who was allegedly harassed by her grandson, is now staying in her own house under the care of her daughter Suryakantham. Officials of Women and Child Welfare Department and local tahsildar went to village on Friday evening and submitted a report to Collector J. Syamala Rao. The Collector suggested that she could be shifted to an NGO Home as she was being harassed by her grandson Ramakrishna to part with her property. Demudamma expressed her unwillingness to leave her home. The officials warned Ramakrishna that action would be initiated against him if he created any more problems for her grandmother. She has sought that Ramakrishna should leave the house. The officials said that as a case was pending in the Lok Ayukta on the issue, legal opinion was being taken. Meanwhile, it's learnt that Ramakrishna has sought time to vacate the house. Villagers are also said to be empathising with him. “I have directed the MRO to issue summons to Demudamma's grandson to appear before me on Monday. Demudamma's statement would be recorded by the MRO as she will not be in a position to travel to the city due to her old age,” Joint Collector Pola Bhaskar told The Hindu.
