BANGALORE: “If I am appointed public prosecutor, then the CBI has to assist me. This will make it easier to bring the former Union Communications Minister, A. Raja, to book,” Janata Party president Subramanian Swamy said here on Saturday. He was participating in an interactive session organised by the Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce & Industry in Bangalore on “Corruption – Role of Corporates.” Dr. Swamy has already filed a private complaint before a Delhi court seeking prosecution of Mr. Raja, regarding the 2G spectrum scam. He noted that there was a provision under Section 5 of the Prevention of Corruption Act for appointment of complainant as public prosecutor. The court was examining his request for such an appointment and was expected to pronounce its order on this issue on February 5. He expressed concern over the general mood in the country that top personalities indulging in corruption would never be brought to book. There was a need to change this perception. Corruption was not only detrimental to the country's development, but was also distorting investment priorities as business houses were focussing more on high-value goods which were not required for common man. Former advocate-general Uday Holla said it was possible for the corporates to fight corruption if all of them stood united and declined to offer bribes to politicians. Senior journalist R.K. Mattoo said that no corruption case had been taken to its logical end. FKCCI president N. S. Srinivasa Murthy and FKCCI Civic Affairs Committee Chairman S. Ejaz Ahmed Sait spoke. On the alleged corruption charges against Karnataka Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa, Dr. Swamy said the allegation was like a “traffic offence” when compared with the volume of corruption in Delhi (national scene).
