‘Harvest rain to increase industrial production'
Staff Reporter
Bangalore: As acute water shortage hinders production in industrial areas in the State, the time has come for entrepreneurs to adopt rainwater harvesting, Karnataka Small Scale Industries Association (KASSIA) president S.S. Biradar said on Friday.
Micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) must make full use of the incentives provided by the State Government, Mr. Biradar said at a seminar on ‘Rainwater harvesting and MSMEs', organised by KASSIA.
He reiterated his concern that small entrepreneur faced the burden of taxes such as trade licence tax and property tax despite the fact that they are a manufacturing industry.
Rainwater harvesting, along with a concerted effort to rejuvenate existing lakes and tanks, is the only way out for arid districts of north Karnataka, Murugesh R. Nirani, Minister for Large and Medium Industries, said.
Endorsing the idea of linking rivers, Minister for Forests, C.H. Vijay Shankar said that it was “the lack of foresight and long term vision” that had prevented the concept from taking off all these decades.
Chairman of the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board A.S. Sadashivaiah and Managing Director of the Karnataka Council for Technological Upgradation G.C. Indra Raj Urs spoke.
