THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Haritha Vidyalayam, meaning green school, an education reality show that chronicles the achievements of government and aided schools in the State across a range of parameters, has completed 50 episodes. The reality show, which IT@School says is the first of its kind in Kerala, is modelled on the popular Green Kerala Express programme and started transmission last November on the ViCTERS channel and on Doordarshan Kerala. The initial plan is to air 100 episodes. In the first round, 127 schools will be covered in an expected 65 episodes. The second round is expected to go on air in the third week of February. More than 10 schools in Thiruvananthapuram district have been featured in the programme. Each three-segment episode of the reality show is a 40-45-minute affair involving students and teachers from classes one to 10. The first segment is the school profile, and the second, a short video of its activities. In the third segment, the teachers and the students present their achievements to a five-member jury. The achievements that are being showcased include pedagogical innovations, ICT-based education, infrastructure, best teaching practices, peer teaching, green endeavours, links with society, physical fitness programmes, inclusive education, agricultural initiatives and sanitation and cleanliness. These are shown with the help of videos, IT-enabled communication tools or other formats. On ViCTERS, the programme is being broadcast at 9.30 a.m., 1 p.m., 6 p.m. and at 9.30 p.m. and on Doordarshan at 5.10 p.m. and at 8.10 p.m. Web portal IT@School plans to put in place a web portal, complete with multimedia content, to provide the latest information on schools in the State. This portal will also host sector-specific videos on infrastructure, academic activities and ICT-based education. This, says IT@School, is intended as an extension of the hugely successful School Wiki portal. IT@School Executive Director Anvar Sadath says the video content shot by the Centre for Development of Imaging Technology for Haritha Vidyalayam will be handed over to schools as part of the ‘free digital library' project.
