60 pods to be installed at 28 metro stations Eight already installed to test the software
Latest technology:Commuters using the interactive digital pod at the Barakhamba metro station in New Delhi on Sunday. NEW DELHI: The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation is installing interactive digital pods at its stations to facilitate easy access for commuters to information on the metro network, train times and fare structure besides major places of tourist attraction and other valuable inputs about the Capital. These pods would be installed at 28 metro stations. “In all, 60 pods are initially being installed at selected stations on Line 1 (Dilshad Garden-Rithala), Line 2 (Jehangirpuri- HUDA City Centre in Gurgaon) and Line 3 (Dwarka Sector 21-Noida City Centre),” said a DMRC official. The main stations where the pods would be installed include Rajiv Chowk, Kashmere Gate, Dilshad Garden, Shahdara, Vishwavidyalaya and Barakhamba Road. “While the Rajiv Chowk and Kashmere Gate stations will have four pods, all the other stations will have two each,” said the official. Eight such pods have already been installed at the Barakhamba Road, Rajiv Chowk, Kashmere Gate and Vishwavidyalaya metro stations to test the software. They will become operational within a month. Installation of the pods, of sizes from 42 to 62 inches, is also in the process at the other stations. The DRMC envisages facilitating access to the Internet portals of India Railways, major airline companies and maps through these pods in the near future. They would also be equipped with Bluetooth connectivity to ensure that all the downloadable information available in them is transferred to mobile phones. The pods would be internally networked and there would be a provision for flashing instant public information messages on them. It would help DMRC provide all necessary alerts to the commuters.
