Former bank official convicted in CBI case

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: Two persons, including a former official of Indian Bank, were convicted on Monday in a cheating case filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) here.

According to a press release, the CBI's Anti-Corruption Branch had registered a case against Parvathi Ammal, officer, Indian Bank, Royapettah branch, S.Kumara Prasad and his wife Maya Prasad for entering into a criminal conspiracy to cheat the branch.

Irregularities

During 1988-89, Parvathi Ammal, who was then in charge of the Establishment and Clearing Section, committed certain irregularities by conniving with the other accused persons and caused a wrongful loss of Rs.96,406 to the bank.

Since Maya Prasad expired during the course of the trial, the charges against her abated.

Rigorous imprisonment

The Additional Special Judge for CBI cases, S. Manoharan, who heard the case found Parvathi Ammal and Kumara Prasad guilty and sentenced them to undergo one year rigorous imprisonment each, the release said.
