KRISHNAGIRI/DHARMAPURI: Members of the Tamil Nadu Government Employees Association resorted to road blockade in Krishnagiri and Dharmapuri districts on Wednesday urging the State Government to fill up the vacant posts in various departments. In Krishnagiri, over 245 members, including 126 women employees participated in the agitation in front of the Anna Statue near the new bus stand. All of them were arrested and were taken to a private marriage hall and released in the evening. The association also demanded immediate implementation of the new scale of pay to those working under consolidated basis in various posts. The scale of pay of the employees working in various technical wings of the government departments should be on a par with their counterparts in Union Government. The association also urged the government to extend the special allowances for selection grade, special grade etc., filling up of vacant posts in various government departments and withdrawal of Contributory Provident Scheme and restore the original CPF to the government employees. They also demanded regular scale of pay for the noon meal workers, monthly pension for the retired workers and increase in food expenses for the noon meal centres. District secretary, TNGEA, K. Agoram said that the DMK government has not fulfilled its promise in various fronts, instead increasing the burden of the employees in the guise of welfare schemes to gain popularity among the people. R. Nagarajan, district president, TNGEA, presided. Office bearers of the association from various government departments participated in the agitation and were arrested. In Dharmapuri, S. Tamil Selvi, State secretary presided over the agitation. Perumal, district president and other office-bearers participated. Over 200 members of the TNGEA, including 150 women, participated in the agitation and were arrested by the police.
