3.5 lakh women SHGs given bank credit of Rs.1,820 crore
Special Correspondent
Stalin presents awards to senior officials of banks
CHENNAI: Nearly 3.5 lakh women self-help groups were, since 2006, given bank credit of around Rs.1,820 crore along with the revolving fund subsidy of Rs. 344 crore.
To encourage the good functioning of restructured panchayat level federations, an incentive of Rs.1 lakh each is being given to them. In 2009, nationalised banks had extended loans in the range of Rs.20 lakh to Rs.50 lakh to the federations, thanks to Deputy Chief Minister M.K. Stalin's efforts, according to an official release.
In 2008-2009, the State government instituted an award scheme for those banks which had encouraged women SHGs.
For 2009-2010, Indian Bank, Indian Overseas Bank and State Bank of India were chosen for the State-level award. Various branches of the three banks had bagged the branch-level award.
Mr. Stalin presented the awards to senior officials of the banks on Wednesday, the release added.
