Tarang annual cine awards to be announced on February 26

BHUBANESWAR: Excitement is in the air amongst the Oriya cine-fans and cine circuits over the forthcoming Tarang annual cine awards for the year 2010 scheduled to be announced during the award presentation ceremony in the Capital on February 26.

The awards have been instituted by Orissa Television (ORTEL) Communications that has launched the Taranga exclusive entertainment channel. ORTEL sources said that the awards for Oriya cinema were launched last year and received rave response from the industry and the viewers as well. A committee comprising filmmakers Sabyasachi Mohapatra, producer Amiya Patnaik, cinematographer Dilip Roy, film editor Deben Mishra, film critic Surya Deo, singer Arjun Charan Samal and magazine editor Iti Samant was constituted to short-list the nominations for the awards which would be finalised following public voting.

The committee has short-listed Alo Mora Kandhei, Don, Mnu Kana Ete Kharap, Sanju Au Sanjna, Swayamsiddha and Tu Tha Mnu Jauchi Rusi for the best film of the year award while Anubhav, Babushan, Siddhant have been nominated for the best actor award. Similarly, Varsha, Archita, Riya, Rali Nanda and Yukta are in the run up for the best actress award, it was learnt. For the best supporting actor award, veterans Ajit Das, Bijay Mohanty and Mihir Das have been nominated while Mahasweta, Aparajita, Usashi Mishra and Malini have been listed for the best actress award. There would be 21 categories, three categories – best choreographer, best child actor and best debutante actor - have been added this year, the sources added. ORTEL shall seek viewers' voting through mobile voting booths, SMS, online voting and newspaper advertisements.
