‘Padayatra' held

Members of Tamilnadu Vivasayigal Sangam take out a ‘padayatra' from Singarapettai to Uthangarai in Krishnagiri district on Friday.

UTHANGARAI: Over 100 members of the Tamilnadu Vivasayigal Sangam took out a rally from Singarapettai to Uthangarai in Krishnagiri district demanding construction of a dam on Kadaparai River.

At the end of the padayatra, the members staged a demonstration in front of the Taluk Office in Uthangarai.

The padayatra was presided over by R. Sabapathy, District Deputy Secretary and was inaugurated by M. Dharman, district president, at Singarapettai.

R. Vijayakuppan, taluk secretary, Communist Party of India(M) and others participated.

The demonstration was presided over by K. Mohamed Ali, State vice-president, Tamilnadu Vivasayigal Sangam. CPI(M) district secretary D. Ravindran and X. Irudayaraj, district secretary, Tamilnadu Milk Producers' Association, spoke at the demonstration.

The members of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) staged demonstrations in front of the Denkanikottai Taluk Office on Friday demanding more basic amenities at Noganur, Karandapalli, Balathottanapalli and Denkanikottai. Over 50 members of the party participated.

District Executive Committee members C. Munusamy, X. Irudayaraj, taluk secretary R. Sekar spoke on the occasion.

The demonstrators wanted the authorities to ensure that elephants did not entered human habitations.

Ration Cards should be given to all those who had applied. The other demands were group houses for tribals living in Koochuvadi, Aiyhyur, Siddhalingankottai, laying of black top road to Athimarathupallam and Siddhalingankottai villages, undertake repair work of the Dalit Colony in Kalkeri and erection of street lights.
