Water supply affected for third consecutive day

Staff Correspondent

Mysore: Drinking water supply continued to remain affected in most parts of Mysore for the third consecutive day on Friday although the authorities restored the supply in some places after the main pipeline of the Hongalli second stage drinking water scheme on KRS Road was replaced on Thursday night.

People were seen standing in queues to get water from borewells.

To ease the crisis, water was supplied in tankers to the affected areas. But citizens from several localities called up the authorities of the Vani Vilas Water Works (VVWW) and requested them to make arrangements to supply water to their localities.

Sources in the VVWW said the bulk water supply is taken care by it while JUSCO is supplying water using tankers. However, several residents complained that the promise to send water tankers to their localities was not kept forcing homemakers to make a beeline for water all through the day.

Hope at sight

A senior official at VVWW said pumping at Hongalli station has become normal since Friday morning and water is being pumped to the storage reservoirs in the city. Supply from the storage reservoirs was restored to only some areas but the supply will be completely restored by Friday midnight. Supply will be restored by Saturday morning, he added.
