TIRUCHI: Awareness of physical fitness among the people is on the rise, said D. Samson Daniel, Medical Superintendent, CSI Mission Hospital, Tiruchi, on Saturday.

Speaking at the inauguration of the University Grants Commission (UGC) sponsored one-day national conference on ‘Felicitous intertwined trio of physical activities, wellness and sports,' organised by the Department of Physical Education, Bishop Heber College, here, Dr. Daniel said well-being was an integral part of a healthy life.

“Eating right, exercise, and adequate rest form the healthy triad for prevention of diseases. Yet, a good self-esteem, positive emotional support from family and friends, and the potential for continued personal growth are also important,” he added.

Dr. Daniel said that taking part in sports would help maintain a healthy body and mind. “By participating in sports, youngsters could develop qualities such as discipline and team spirit.”

M. Marcus Diepen Boominathan, Principal, Bishop Heber College, said healthy diet, regular exercise, and participation in sports would help in overcoming health-related problems. V. Mahadevan, Assistant Director of Physical Education, University of Madras, released a souvenir and handed over the first copy to Dr. Daniel. More than 100 papers were presented during the conference.

At the valediction, R. Abraham, former Principal, Selvam College of Physical Education, Namakkal, gave away certificates to participants in the presence of L.C. John, Director of Physical Education, Bishop Heber College.
