Farm budget

Staff Reporter

Bangalore: The Rashtriya Kisan Sangha on Saturday urged Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa to hold discussions with farmers organisations before presenting the first-ever agriculture budget.

Sangha president C. Rama Reddy told presspersons here that the proposal to present the agriculture budget was a welcome move. However, farmers need to be consulted before undertaking this task, he added. The proposed budget should focus on proper marketing facilities, cold houses, regularisation of electrical pump sets, and free power supply.

Efforts should be made to classify farmland as dry, irrigated and horticulture. And, 40 per cent to 90 per cent subsidy should be given to farmers, Mr. Reddy said.
