Clinical trials of clot-busting drug launched

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: Bharat Biotech announced on Friday that it has initiated a Phase-III trial in the country with clot-busting drug THR-100 ( Staphylokinase) in patients suffering from acute myocardial infraction or heart attack. The trial is expected to recruit approximately 120 patients.

According to a press release here on Friday, Bharat Biotech entered into a license agreement with ThromboGenics for the manufacture, clinical development and commercialisation of THR-100 as a replacement for established thrombolytics such as streptokinase and urokinase in developing markets.

THR-100, a novel variant of recombinant Staphylokinase, is a thrombolytic agent developed by ThromboGenics for the treatment of acute myocardial infraction and other vascular diseases.

The Phase-III trial will be completed in the second half of this year and its results will pave the way for the company to file for marketing approval with Indian regulatory authorities.
