AP upsets Tamil Nadu

KOLKATA: Andhra Pradesh caused an upset beating a strong Tamil Nadu in the pre-quarterfinals of the junior girls' team event in the 72nd junior and youth National and inter-State table tennis at Ahmedabad, according to information received here.

K. Spoorthy, ranked fifth in the country as a junior, won all the three matches she figured in to help Andhra Pradesh reach the quarterfinals.

Her best came against India No. 2 Reeth Rishya of Tamil Nadu, whom she beat in three straight games.

The results: Junior girls' (pre-quarterfinals): West Bengal bt Uttarakhand 3-0; Karnataka bt Chhattisgarh 3-0; North Bengal bt Kerala 3-0; Gujarat bt Haryana 3-0; Maharashtra ‘B' bt Rajasthan 3-0; Andhra Pradesh bt Tamil Nadu 3-1 .
