KOCHI: As many as 57 persons were arrested in 59 cases registered as part of 797 raids conducted between December 28 and January 28, according to the report presented by K. Karunakaran, Deputy Commissioner of Excise, Ernakulam. The report was presented at the meeting of the district-level public committee to check production and consumption of illicit liquor and narcotic drugs. Additional District Magistrate K.N. Raje presided over the meeting held at the District Collectorate. During the raids, 188 litre of Indian Made Foreign Liquor, 14 litres of toddy, 340 litres of wash, 35 litres of Ayurvedic medicine containing alcohol, 74 litres of arrack, 4 kg of dry ganja and three vehicles were taken into custody. The report also briefed the meeting about the awareness programmes conducted at schools and colleges in the district during this period.
