Krishna Udupa is champion
Coimbatore: Krishna Udupa of Karnataka, with a better tie-break score, emerged champion in the National ‘B' (FIDE-rated) chess championship for the visually challenged here on Friday. Krishna and his Statemate Kishan Gangolli were tied with eight points each.
Shankar Chakraborty of West Bengal, with 7.5 points, took the third position.
Besides cash prizes, the top 28 players and the three special category winners namely Vaishali N. Salavakar, Vasant D. Patil (both Maharashtra) and Soundarya Kumar Pradhan (Orissa) took home voice recorders.
The top 14 players will now vie for honours in the National ‘A' championship to be held in Nanded, near Nagpur, from May 8 to 16.
