Chennai: To ensure timely publication of results, the Anna University of Technology-Chennai (AUTC) has decided to consider valuation work as one of the key factors for affiliation. In a notification to principals of affiliated colleges, AUTC Registrar S. Gowri has asked the institutional heads to permit faculty members from their colleges, who have been assigned valuation duty, to take up the work of the recently conducted examinations. According to the notification, each faculty member should be given sufficient on-office-duty facility until the valuation period was over. After observing the delay in valuation work in Anna University, the newly formed AUTC, the new affiliating university for engineering colleges in the northern region from this academic year, has linked valuation duty as one of the key factors for affiliation. “At the time of affiliation, the colleges will be given weightage proportionate to the number of members permitted for valuation,” Prof. Gowri said. Without enough staff for valuation, those taking up the work were overburdened. Some managements had lodged complaints with the university that that the teachers, at times, spent only three minutes on a paper, which would have taken a student three hours to write. Improper valuation often resulted in more number of students applying for revaluation, officials said. There have been complaints from faculty coming for valuation duty that the college granted only two days ‘on duty,' which again disrupted valuation work.
