Mr. Kamaraj said officials of the Department of Agriculture were able to convince the farmers and bring 25,984 hectares of paddy under RR 1000 technique of cultivation as against the target of 26,000 hectares. The number of tillers per plant was higher. So was the number of grains per tiller. “The higher yield has been scientifically proven,” he said. The Joint Director (Agriculture), P. Sankaralingam, the Assistant Director, Kanagaraj, and the Personal Assistant (Agriculture) to Collector, A.J.A. Jeyasingh Gnanadurai, spoke.
