BMTC official suspended

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: The Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) management, on Saturday, suspended the shift in-charge at its Hennur Bus Depot, Ashok, pending inquiry, for his alleged lapse in taking care of a driver.

Driver Mallikarjun (33) complained of chest pain in the morning and later it turned that he had a heart attack, said Arun Chakravarthy, Director (Security and Vigilance). Though he was shifted to a local hospital, he died, Mr. Chakravarthy said.

Mallikarjun's colleagues alleged that the shift in-charge did not provide a vehicle to take the driver immediately to the hospital, and this charge was being investigated, Mr. Chakravarthy said.

Sources claimed that Transport Minister R. Ashok had to intervene to get Mallikarjun shifted to the hospital.
