Kalam bats for inclusivity

PANAJI: Speaking on the challenges of emerging techno-globalisation before the country, the former President .P.J. Abdul Kalam on Sunday called for a focus in the sense of inclusivity “whenever we innovate and try to generate new ideas, products, process and solutions.”

Dr. Kalam was delivering the second lecture at the D.D. Kosambi Festival of Ideas-2011 here on Sunday. Chief Minister Digambar Kamat was present. The former President said the society had seen many innovations, discoveries and inventions but the biggest innovation was the one which brought a difference in the life of the common man. A study should be made of the impact of technology with reference to the various strata of society, especially its long-term and short-term damage.

“While we penetrate products and new kinds of services in the market, we should accord priority to inclusivity when we are dealing with society in particular,” said Dr. Kalam. Dr. Kalam said in the last 10 years, he had interacted with nearly 11 million youths and tried to understand their . Their common aspiration was to become unique but the biggest refrain had been the lack of encouragement at home, he said.
