Train passengers robbed
Staff Reporter
NEW DELHI: Several passengers on board Unchahar Express were robbed of cash and belongings on the outskirts of the Capital over the weekend.
The train, going from Chandigarh to Allahabad via Delhi, had crossed Narela station and was going towards Badli when some young men brandishing knives started asking the passengers travelling in the general compartment to part with their belongings and cash.
Over 100 persons were travelling in the compartment. The robbers beat up some of the passengers to instil terror among the others. “So far, six persons have lodged complaints with us. They were robbed of over Rs.8,000 in cash and three mobile phones. No instance of injury to any person has been reported so far,” said a police officer.
The robbers jumped off the slow-moving train before it reached Badli and fled.
