‘Utilise Labour Welfare Fund'

Staff Correspondent

Hubli: Union Minister for Labour and Employment M. Mallikarjun Kharge has asked the State Government to make use of the Labour Welfare Fund to set up ITIs in rural areas for training unemployed youth in various trades.

He was addressing a gathering after laying the foundation stone for modernisation of the ESI Hospital at Hubli at a cost of Rs. 25 crore on Sunday.

Mr. Kharge said Rs. 613 crore was available with the State Government under the fund and the State could at least utilise half of it in a phased manner to set up the ITIs for the benefit of rural youth.

He urged Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa to cooperate with the Centre in implementing welfare projects.

Referring to the shortage of doctors in ESI hospitals across the State, Mr. Kharge asked the State Labour Minister to hold recruitment drive exclusively for ESI hospitals. Mr. Kharge said the Centre had already permitted appointment of consultants especially in super-speciality fields.
