Rosaiah hails Praja Rajyam merger with Congress

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: Former Chief Minister K. Rosaiah has said decision to merge Praja Rajyam into the Congress had given a new turn to the Andhra Pradesh politics.

“The merger will immensely benefit the two sides. Decision not to impose any terms and conditions was highly appreciated,” Mr. Rosaiah said at a press conference here on Monday. He said once the merger has been announced, the relevance of Mr. Chiranjeevi's earlier stand on Telangana does not matter any more. Former Minister J.C. Diwakar Reddy welcomed the merger announcement.

BJP criticises Chiru

State BJP president G. Kishan Reddy has demanded Praja Rajyam leader K. Chiranjeevi to explain to people the reasons for merging PR with Congress.

At a press conference here on Monday, he said Mr. Chiranjeevi, who launched PR on the plank of social justice should state whether it would be achieved by merging the party with Congress. He said that many PR activists were angry with Mr. Chiranjeevi's decision. Mr. Reddy announced that he would sit on a day's fast near Indira Park on Tuesday demanding reimbursement of fee, mess charges and scholarship.
