Four J&K officials suspended in ration scam

Jammu: The Jammu & Kashmir Government has suspended four officials in connection with an alleged ration scam in Kathua district and ordered a probe into it.

“Following complaints of pilferage of ration meant for Below Poverty Line (BPL) families of Billawar and Bani tehsils of Kathua district, the Department of Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CA&PD) has put Tehsil Supply Officers Billawar and Bani and Store Keepers, Food Stores Bilawar and Bani under suspension,” a CA&PD official said here. “This is to ensure an impartial inquiry ordered by the Minister for CA&PD by a committee comprising two Deputy Directors of the Department,” he said. The Committee has also been directed to look into the role of the Assistant Director, CA&PD, Kathua and the Departmental Supervisor of FCI, Kathua, in the matter. The committee has been directed to ascertain the failure of the department officials in adhering to the instructions of engaging vehicles only through SRTC, the official said. The probe panel has been directed to furnish its report within one week.

Police have recovered 620 bag of wheat and seized three trucks carrying supplies of the Food Corporation of India at a local flour mill. - PTI
